Subsequence is an experimental media project that discovers and disseminates topics related to crafts and culture from around the world through an alternative perspective. The work of London based photographer, Samuel Bradley and stylist Stephen Mann has been featured since the inaugural issue as a visvim WMV fashion editorial within the pages of the magazine, which acts as the primary medium for presenting content. For each feature, the only direction given from the editorial team is that the piece aligns with the magazine's theme for that edition. The repeat editorial feature overflows with the creativity of the pair and is simply a beautifully crafted story. We always prefer to have readers enjoy our content by viewing the impactful work in our large format print publication, however we have opted to introduce some of the content here for viewing.

How can I approach making something that has the same charm as something I find beauty in. It may be possible to make something appear similar on the outside, but I think that is different from the real authentic feeling that I am chasing. As a result of my pursuit to create the same charm that reveals itself from the inside rather than a superficial place, I found myself creating my own yarns, the foundational aspect of all materials.

WMV VISVIM CARMEL

Carmel by the Sea is located south of the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California. In this small beach city with a modest population of around 3,000 people we will open a new store, WMV VISVIM CARMEL.

F.I.L. GINZA

In the northern edges of Ginza, along Showa-dori, there is a small building that was built in 1932 (The 7th year of the Showa era) and still remains as it was when first erected more than 90 years ago. In this neighborhood, it is a rare sight to see any prewar buildings that survived the air raids of that time. A new store location, "F.I.L. GINZA" will open at this site, occupying the entire building.

There are vibrations that can be felt from the steering wheel and accelerator pedal, as well as smells and sounds that come from the engine. It becomes necessary for one to sharpen your five senses and drive while always keeping in mind the current condition of the car. It's not simply just a way to get from point A to point B.

Aigata (Natural Indigo Stencil Dyeing)

There is a piece of cloth that was dyed by "Aigata" during the Edo period that I found several years ago at an antique market, and the color of it is a beautiful deep indigo without any cloudiness to it where it appears as if it layers over each other time and time again. The simple yet delicate decorative pattern is applied using a hand carved Ise Katagami (paper stencil) and has a unique texture.

Silk Jacquard Fabric

Silk thread is an extremely fine animal fiber. Where one strand of hair is 50 to 60 denier (a unit of thread thickness), in comparison silk is the thinnest of threads at 2 to 3 denier and when you twist numerous strands together you finally get a thickness that is over 10 denier. When you take this thin thread and create fabrics that are densely woven, it can create beautiful patterns and textures, however on the other hand it is true that it can be very difficult to handle.

Cotton

Cotton that contains average fiber lengths of over 35mm is generally referred to as ultra long-staple cotton, however among the various strains in existence, Sea Island cotton possess particularly fine features.
