WMV Spring and Summer 2025

When it comes to creating products for WMV, a consistent theme is to put out clothes that I want to wear in my daily life, that are also able to provide joy for the person wearing them. However, in addition to that I place an emphasis on my own sensibilities.

To add a sensibility that is my own

When it comes to creating products for WMV, a consistent theme is to put out clothes that I want to wear in my daily life, that are also able to provide joy for the person wearing them.  However, in addition to that I place an emphasis on my own sensibilities.

One of my favorite pieces this season is the patchwork denim skirt (*1).  Patchwork is made by combining fabrics of different colors and designs similar to tsugi hagi you find in quilts and kimonos.  It requires time and effort to sew them together by reusing old clothes for example.  I love and collect such antique patchwork pieces and created this skirt with a similar sentiment requiring a certain love and care as I took several different types of denim that were individually damage finished and spliced together for the creation of this skirt.  Each piece of denim that was used has a light and soft character to it, which also gives the skirt a delicate-ness.

The new chambray material made with cotton and silk is also a fabric that was developed especially for WMV.  Chambray is a material that is traditionally used in workwear and usually woven with cotton, but by blending in some silk we were able to create a rich texture that has a great hand feel to it that is comfortable on the skin.  In addition, as the indigo dyed yarns fade with time and regular use the overall appearance of the fabric avoids an aged yellowing, but rather experiences a beautiful color fade that reveals the underlying white.  I believe this chambray dress(*2) to be the most beautiful piece of workwear I have ever seen.

In terms of feminine charm, the two-piece tank top(*3) and skirt(*4) adorned with glass beads is also wonderful.  The beautiful shimmer the beads provide is amazing, however their moderate weight is what creates a natural draping effect that follows the lines of your body.  Most of the clothing that is available these days is quite casual, and that is why I feel items like these, made with a classic material that has a bit of a formal sophistication to it are very special.

On the other hand, I have always been very fond of the men's look.  Sometimes I borrow clothes from my husband Hiroki's closet and wear them although the sleeves are always a bit too long, or the shoulders of a jacket may be a bit too wide.  Regardless though, I like being able to feel close to the people I like.  The jackets for this collection were influenced by such daily experiences, where the sleeves remain a little long, but the shoulder lines have been softened and the body width adjusted so it's just right.  It creates a simple yet elegant jacket.  It is my hope to create a new charm in men's pieces that I like by adding a lightness, a softness, and beauty to them.
