The Tango region in Northern Kyoto prefecture has a long history of being a production area of silk fabrics that spans approximately 1,300 years and it remains the largest producer in Japan even today. The area boasts a collection of weaving houses that produce traditional textiles such as the widely renowned Tango Chirimen. One of these irreplaceable workshops, "Sosaku Kobo Ito Asobi" continues to challenge themselves by trying to create their own unique fabrics that take advantage of techniques that have been cultivated since old times.

When it comes to creating products for WMV, a consistent theme is to put out clothes that I want to wear in my daily life, that are also able to provide joy for the person wearing them. However, in addition to that I place an emphasis on my own sensibilities.

WMV VISVIM KOBE

On November 30th (Sat), we will open WMV VISVIM KOBE in the Chartered Building, a historic architectural site that stands along the Kaigandori street in Kobe. The building was constructed in 1938 and was built to be the Kobe branch of the British financial institution, Chartered Bank. It is one of the modern buildings that symbolize the foreign settlement area in Kobe.

Samuel and Stephen's Works

Subsequence is an experimental media project that discovers and disseminates topics related to crafts and culture from around the world through an alternative perspective. The work of London based photographer, Samuel Bradley and stylist Stephen Mann has been featured since the inaugural issue as a visvim WMV fashion editorial within the pages of the magazine, which acts as the primary medium for presenting content. For each feature, the only direction given from the editorial team is that the piece aligns with the magazine's theme for that edition. The repeat editorial feature overflows with the creativity of the pair and is simply a beautifully crafted story. We always prefer to have readers enjoy our content by viewing the impactful work in our large format print publication, however we have opted to introduce some of the content here for viewing.

Built originally as a private abode in the 1970s on the banks of the Meguro River, WMV VISVIM TOKYO has been renovated using a form of residential architecture similar to that of traditional Japanese tea house aesthetics. Original materials have been maintained in many of the main structures within the building such as columns, beams, and roofing, while other constructive elements have been built off designs by Hiroki Nakamura.
